Extract Text

Free online OCR: extract text from scans and images and export it to Word, with Chinese and English support.

Recognises text in scans and images (OCR) and produces copyable, editable text you can export straight to Word.

Image enhancement (grayscale, contrast, binarization, deskew) noticeably improves accuracy, and mixed Chinese/English content uses the matching language model. The model (~30 MB) downloads on first use, then the browser caches it.

Everything runs locally in your browser — nothing is uploaded to any server.

How to use

  1. Upload an image or scanned PDF — Common image formats and image-only PDFs are supported.
  2. Enable image enhancement — Turn on grayscale, contrast or deskew depending on the source quality.
  3. Recognise and export — Wait for recognition, then copy the text or export it to Word.

FAQ

How can I improve recognition accuracy?

Enable image enhancement in the tool: grayscale, contrast, binarization and deskew make a big difference on photos and faxes. Below roughly 150 DPI the accuracy drops noticeably.

Which languages are supported?

A combined Chinese and English model is loaded by default, covering mixed simplified Chinese and English content.

Why does the model have to be downloaded on first use?

The OCR engine and language model run locally, so about 30 MB of model data is downloaded once and then cached by the browser — no repeated downloads.
