Why does the first visit download an engine?

The engine is about 58 MB and provides full document layout and font handling. It is cached by your browser, so subsequent visits need no download.

Are legacy .doc and .xls supported?

Re-save them as .docx / .xlsx / .pptx first for the best fidelity. Documents with VBA macros or complex embedded objects may shift slightly.

Will Chinese text render correctly?

Yes. A CJK font subset is embedded during conversion, so ordinary mixed Chinese and English documents display properly.
