Add Page Numbers

Add page numbers to PDF online, free: customise position, starting number and numbering format.

Add page numbers to an entire document: choose header or footer placement, the starting number and the format (such as "Page 1 of 10").

You can skip the cover page or start counting from any page, and overlay existing numbers to make them consistent. A CJK font subset is embedded to avoid garbled text.

Everything runs locally in your browser — nothing is uploaded to any server.

How to use

  1. Upload a PDF — Drop in the document to number.
  2. Set position and format — Choose header or footer, the starting page and the numbering style.
  3. Apply and download — Check the preview, then export.

FAQ

Can numbering start from page 2?

Yes. Set the starting page and the starting number separately — skipping the cover and counting the body from 1 is a common setup.

Is a format like "Page 1 of 10" supported?

Yes. You can choose plain numbers, "Page N" or "N / total", and the total is calculated from the actual output page count.

What if the document already has page numbers?

New numbers are overlaid directly, and existing ones are not detected or removed. If they overlap and hurt legibility, cover the old numbers first with Edit or Redact.
